Buendia - Blog Post 6 - Activist Art

This poster was created to make people aware of the 2010 Gulf Oil Spill. The illustration communicates the issue by using the the well known Dr. Seuss book, "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish." Replacing or perhaps adding to the original list of the fishes of the classic story, the poster challenges the oil spill situation in the gulf. Although the poster seems to target an adult audience, the use of Dr. Seuss's story simplifies the message of the poster so even a younger audience can understand the underlying message. The order of the oiled and dead fish creates a relationship that viewers must interpret. The effects of the oil spill leads to the oiled fish and then to the dead fish. Overall, the poster's use of color, repetition, alignment, and contrast creates a persuasive message.
