post 3 analyzing pathos- ryan rogers

ad 1 Eisenhower.
the advertisement starts with a black man telling president Eisenhower that "the democrats keept telling me I've never had it so good" and then Eisenhower tells the camera that we are billions in debt, still fighting in Korea, prices have doubled, and taxes break our backs. he is clearly appealing to guilt and fear here. guilt because it should be the golden age in America but its not because of the taxes, prices, war, and debt. those are things we all fear to some degree. especially the debt and high prices. But the ad also appeals to patriotism. the add suggests that if we vote for Eisenhower that we can have a change. We can stop the war, lower prices, get out of debt, and even lower taxes

Ad 2 Nancy Reagan.
The ad starts with Nancy sitting in an office looking like a kindly grandmother or aunt saying how she is "deeply offended by the personal attacks on her husband". this immediately appeals to guilt and to pity we are guilty that the kindly old woman has been offended and we pity the fool who offended her. we also can feel the appeal towards patriotism as she points out very eloquently one by one some of the problems with president carter and exposes HIS fear appeals. she gois on to talk about the lack of real leadership in the last 3 years and the ad cuts out with a Reagan-Bush picture and the quote ' its time for strong leadership.

My advertisement.
the ad I did turned a 30 second Obama 2008 ad into a john McCain ad. it has appeals to fear, by showing clips of the Lieberman closing, unemployment rates, and foreclosures. it has guilt appeals because it talked about some Americans using the housing market like a casino. it has patriotic appeals because it then shows clips of cars being built and of steal workers across America and McCain saying that the American workers will prevail because we are the backbone of the economy. and it has warmth appeals because it shows Americans at home and at work fighting the good fight as john McCain talks about our American spirit.
